One of my fondest memories as a child is waking up to the smell of garlic and meat cooking in the kitchen. It normally meant two things: (1) Today is Sunday. (2) Mommy is making breakfast. Breakfast in a Filipino household normally consisted of sinangag (garlic fried rice), longanisa (a sweet, fried pork sausage), and a fried egg, and is one of my – and Peanut’s – favorite meals to this day. This recipe goes perfectly with any fried or grilled meat, and is amazing for savory rice balls the size of your thumb.
Sinangag, Garlic Fried Rice, a dish from the Philippines

- Butter, melted
- Salt and garlic powder to taste
- 3 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil
